Dixie Chicks Speak Out and Sing!

The United States is suppose to be the nation where freedom of speech is most prized. No doubt you’ve heard the expression “ I may not agree with what you say, but I’ll fight to the death for your right to say it.” In the United States today I think the sentiment is more “If I don’t agree with what you say, I’ll fight you to the death if you say it.” Say anything against the prevailing sentiment and you’re trashed, threatened and scorned.                                                                                                                   True freedom of speech doesn’t involve merely mouthing what the demagogue of the moment spouts. If that were the case then Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia could be said to have had free speech. Freedom of speech isn’t just about being able to say outrageous things or being able to use foul language, the founding fathers could not have imagined late night TV.  The freedom of speech the founding fathers of the United States were trying to foster and protect was exactly the kind of free speech the Dixie Chicks were exercising; speaking out about a President leading the nation into a disastrous war. The Dixie Chicks are great Americans.

With the Iraq war we see the obscene transfer of wealth that marked the twentieth century, continue unabated. The military-industrial-petroleum complex got their puppet elected twice and he sure has delivered the goods in a flurry of bullshit. It’s not enough, more defense spending is needed. By sticking the strategic defense poker up the Russian bear’s ass, Bush risks igniting the cold war again. Bush may look into those fetid orbs Putin calls eyes and see Andy of Mayberry, but that’s the wishful thinking of a fool.

Putin is every decent, thinking person’s, worst nightmare and when he looks at George you can be sure he isn’t taken in like the American public was in the last election. Putin sees a third rate bull shitter, offering him an opportunity to solidify power in the hands of the old guard. Putin sees a way to turn oil money into power and prestige. Nukes, nukes and more nukes.

 Will billions of dollars spent on S.D.I. make America any safer? Not one bit! America will continue to sacrifice the money she needs for schools, roads, bridges, environmental technology and effective national defense programs so that a few filthy rich friends of Cheney can get richer. A couple of million dollars spent on suit case nukes could totally defeat the multi-billion dollar S.D.I.!  Strategic Defense is a combination of sleazy pork barrel and the worst sort of “Maginot Line,” thinking.

Bush if not a dummy, is a willing puppet and certainly an ass hole. He’s not stupid so much as utterly compromised. He gets the bad rap he deserves but  I often feel that Rice

gets off easy. She’s smart, knowledgeable and ambitious, she’s really the only face of

competence the Bush Administration can show the world. Yet she dropped the ball

before 911 and screwed up her part of planning post war
Iraq. Her ongoing P.R. efforts

ring hollow and the sort of relationship she has with the President undermines her

ability to behave professionally in regards to him. I think people should look at Condi

with a far more critical eye.
